After some coaxing from a friend put this trip together at the last minute to see her, and maybe Jimmy too!
Interesting timing in life sometimes- finally was able to refi my condo and closed on Wednesday, got laid off Thursday, here I am Friday.
Surreal.
Friday 4th
I don't think I'ver EVER used good freq flyer miles on a domestic ticket, apart from when I flew my parents across the country first class, but here we
go...60k miles.
DELTA 1146 AUSTIN 540am to ATLANTA 900am, upgrade to first class
DELTA 1578 ATLANTA 935ma to KEY WEST 1137am, upgrade to first class
I'd always driven down to Key West, never flown in. So they mention the sudden braking is an experience.
I also got to become friends with Atlanta Parrotheads Brent and Tammy who were sitting next to me.
We split a cab into town.
Crowne Plaza La Concha, 430 Duval Street
$677 for 2 nights minus $160 since I had recently hit 10 nights on hotels.com #30 of 41
hotels
This place was fairly expensive, but I wanted to stay near the Pier House to be convenient to meet up with friends. The first indication of that being a
complete bust was I was supposed to meet up by 1pm after landing, then head out to the street party together. Instead she had a 2.5hr lunch and then went
to the street party without me. Nice.
The positive thing about this hotel was it was LITERALLY right next to the street party stage. So after wasting hours waiting for my friend
I made my way downstairs and to the show, which popped me out at the front part of the stage.
I was able to make my way to the area right in front of Jimmy, but not without trouble. Easier to manuever on your own, but got no back up either
should things turn violent, always a trade off and a fine line.
Planning this trip only about two weeks out, I was originally looking at coming in Saturday morning and then out Sunday to avoid asking for any time off
from work. Discussing the schedule though, I just had a feeling Jimmy would make his appearance Friday afternoon as Mac's "special guest." So
lucky thing I came in Friday, because I was correct...!

That's my hotel right there.
Yes, of course the tallest mother f*cker in the entire land was standing in front of me. Seriously typical.
Despite seeing my friend at the show, where she didn't say anything to me and then went off AWOL, it was truly a great Key West evening. A breezy night
where it looked like it would rain but never did.
Met up with Brent and Tammy where we hit several classic bars, and they knew tons of folks and were MOTM veterans. At the clothing optional
bar
Garden of Eden we did see some boobies,
but the only ones to drop trou were three guys. Very Key West.
Here we are at Fogarty's finally getting dinner- I had a good pasta dish (boo carbs).
While we were having a very good time, we would joke how time really seemed to be moving along very slowly. At this point it felt like we
squeezed in enough for it to be midnight, yet is was like 9pm.
Friends at the Pier House, nice place.
